Early intervention for first-time drug users (FreD)

The LWL Coordination Centre for Addiction Issues has been setting standards in the field of early and brief intervention with this successful programme since 2000.

Make the difference!

The two Make the Difference projects aimed to improve the situation of children from families affected by addiction by strengthening support systems, enhancing collaboration between addiction and youth services, and developing a European training curriculum for professionals.

The following projects are currently only documented in German. Please feel free to contact us if you would like more information in English.

  • Memorandum Pedagogy : Media : Addiction: This project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Health, develops and disseminates a memorandum on the use of digital media.
  • Addiction Prevention With and For Refugees in NRW: This project, funded by the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of North Rhine-Westphalia, is implemented at five model sites and targets young adults with a refugee background, using the FreD approach as its guiding preventive and educational concept.
  • TANDEM-Transfer – Special Support for Special People in the Network of Disability and Addiction Services: This project, funded by the LWL Social Foundation, aims to strengthen the collaboration between addiction and disability services and provide professionals with tools and materials to offer low-threshold, effective support to people with disabilities facing addiction issues, delivered through three training sessions.
  • SAY NO! – Addiction Prevention Program at Special Schools for Students with Intellectual Disabilities: This program addresses youth aged 13 to 18 with intellectual disabilities, who are a particularly vulnerable group for problematic substance use regardless of their living situation.
  • Peers at Driving Schools: As part of a European initiative, we advise districts and independent cities in Westphalia-Lippe on establishing peer discussion groups for alcohol prevention at driving schools.
